Horizons

An exploration of landscape,
horizon the place where heaven touches earth.

In these pieces I express my joy and delight in the
natural world while seeking to explore the underlying
connections between all things.

Holy gold

While living in Colombia I discovered Bogota's Museo del Oro and was deeply moved by the tiny, beautiful golden jaguars, frogs, crocodiles and bird-men on display.  I also hiked through primary rain forest in Colombia and Ecuador and traveled by river on the tributaries of the Amazon.

These oil pastels are my response to South American shamanism and the powerful influence that their golden ceremonial artifacts had on me.  My pieces are layered, brilliantly coloured, reflective of the tropical environment that they depict, although they are places that exist only in my imagination.  The themes of death and rebirth, the transformative power of gold, and of shamanic flight to other-wordly dimensions are three recurring themes that I explore in my work.
